How To Motivate

Posted by Chris on Friday, July 8th, 2011 - 2:42 pm

When it comes to motivation, there’s a gap between what science knows and what business does. Our current business operating system-which isbuilt around external, carrot-and-stick motivators-doesn’t work and often does harm. We need an upgrade. And the science shows the way. This new approach has three essential elements: (1) Autonomy - the desire to direct our own lives; (2) Mastery – the urge to make progress and get better at something that matters; and (3) Purpose - the yearning to do what we do in the service of something larger than ourselves. There you have it, employees and yourself work best when left to your own devices, to allow the mind to flow, to hit the zone where true creativity can shine. To many organizations require regimented attendance combined with review after review to monitor progress which only turns up the treadmill but does not produce better productivity.

Working solely for monetary reward is fruitless; we need balance and that can be achieved through the three aforementioned essentials.

Now let’s look at what Slixer has to offer and how we can help turn the monotonous drudgery of the daily grind into a more flowing environment of creative input and positive results.

“Thanks for the effort. All went well…The facilitators were great and we had a super day.” – Capital Power -

Is how our client felt after a day in which they Chased around downtown Edmonton in a quest filled with clues, riddles challenges and tasks all of which brought them to a fantastic conclusion at a great post-chase venue.

As per clients instruction, we customized the Chase based on their corporate mandates, tastes and preferences. The end result was one wild ride of fun filled activity, definitely took them out of their ordinary!

Our clients own words: “Thank YOU!!! My staff had a wonderful time”. With around 100 “Chasers” racing through the streets of Vancouver June 22, everyone really had a great time!

This is exactly what we do and it makes us all proud to provide such a great teambuilding event for such a great company, Elastic Path Software.

I’ll let the client do the talking: “We just wanted to say a BIG thank you for the successful murder mystery! Thank you for being so accommodating with the change in time and always quickly answering my emails.   We used this as a Team Building Activity for our team and everyone really got into it and enjoyed it. Your staff really got our group going.  I think if we hadn’t put the papers on the table saying it was a murder mystery the 2 planted actors would have blended in very well as sales reps!  They got attacked by our team right away : )  Your staff was amazing. Thank you for a successful Team Building Activity!”

Another successful Slixer event, this one was just outside Montreal and is typical of the feedback we get from our corporate entertainment events all across the US and Canada.

In the world of go, go, go it’s the memorable fun and positive events that truly bond your employees and motivate them to contribute a positive outlook and energy into your company or organization. You can’t put too high a price on that!
